I started Village Green with two JC Penny lawn mowers and a broom in 1980 - the year President Reagan was elected. I was in junior high and needed some extra cash so, with a little help from Mom and Dad, I began cutting lawns. Eventually, that pocket money paid my way through a bachelors in Business and Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. One of the most important things college taught me was that I enjoy working for myself much more than working for someone else so I decided to make Village Green my career.
Since that time the business has grown to over 200 accounts. Apparently I'm doing something right because I still maintain a few homes from over twenty years ago. In fact, I've noticed some of the children of my original customers are calling me now! I think when their grandkids start calling me.... I'll be calling it quits.
By now the business has over 200 accounts ( thanks mostly to referrals) and it just keeps growing. What has been the key to Village Green's success? What I'm told most frequently from new clients is even though my prices aren't the lowest in town they chose my service because I have a great deal of experience to tell them the services they need. More importantly though, I'm honest enough to tell them the services they don't need.
While most people retire after twenty years that's a long way off for me. In the meantime I'll keep doing things the way I've always done them, fairly and honestly with the best quality I know how.
