So many Ken has recorded a `Best Plants Series.` Today we wanted to show you one of our favorite plants to use, the Japanese Maple. It has to be one of my all-time favorite trees. Japanese Maples are what we call an understory tree. That means they like to be underneath another tree. Ideally, you`d like them to be in the shade so their leaves don`t get crinkly during the heat of summer. They can do ok in the sun, but keep in as much shade as possible if at all possible. They can grow to be quite tall, but they are slow growers. They drop their red leaves in the winter, making this a spectacularly graceful tree. Why does the Forest Pansy (a.k.a. Redbud Tree) make our list? They thrive in North Texas Offer color (famous for their vibrant blooms in late winter or early spring.) Unlike the Japanese Maple, the Redbud can handle a sunny spot in your landscape.
