We get many questions from customers on what our favorite plants to use in North Texas are. So many that we created our “Best Plants Series” to showcase our list.
Today we wanted to show you the Japanese Maple. It has to be one of my all-time favorite trees. Japanese Maples are what we call an understory tree. That means they like to be underneath another tree.
Ideally, you’d like them to be in the shade so their leaves don’t get crinkly during the heat of our North Texas summer.
They can do ok in the sun, but keep in as much shade as you can if at all possible. They can grow to be quite tall, but they are slow growers. Their bright red leaves make this a spectacularly graceful tree.
