To fertilize, or not to fertilize, that is the question (in a summer with stage 3 water restrictions!)
We’re channeling the Bard of Avon for today’s quick tip because that is the 2nd most common questions we’ve been asked this summer. Should I bother with a fertilization & weed program when I can only water once a week because of Stage 3 water restrictions? The #1 question is if the customer’s lawn and/or landscape can survive the water restrictions (we answered that here.)
Village Green has been in this business for 33 years. Not to toot our own horn, but that length of experience leads to a certain wisdom (our Founder and President, Ken Hyatt will probably disagree with us calling him wise but there is no mistake he read the writing on the wall regarding the new realty of water restriction for North Texas.) Which is why Village Green decided to switch to a new slow release fertilizer. This product is more expensive, but with fertilizer you get what you pay for, and this fertilizer will last roughly two weeks without watering and without burning our customers lawn (like the cheaper blends.) If you are a Village Green fertilization & weed control customer you don’t have to worry about rescheduling your service day to align with your watering day. Our product will be fine, again, for two weeks. In fact any fertilizer product Village Green applies, in any season, will be fine without water for roughly two weeks.
If you are a DYI kind of person and want to make sure you stay the course with your fertilization & weed control this summer, ask for a slow release, sulfur-coated blend of fertilizer. The coating is what allows it to release gradually over a period of a few weeks, while surviving until your next water.
Village Green could use a cheaper fertilizer. We’d probably get more business, short term. But in the end, this is the kind of fertilizer we use at our own homes, on our own lawns, which is why we use them on our customers. You don’t stay in this business 33 years unless you deliver the best service to your customers at a fair price.
