During the spring months, Village Green will make lawn health visits 3 thru 5 to our customers on one of our Lawn Health Plans. These spring visits are similar to each other as we will use high nitrogen, 28-3-10, or comparable fertilizer on all healthy grasses: bermuda, St. Augustine, and zoysia. Struggling lawns will receive an individual root-feeding fertilizer 18-46-0 made from diammonium phosphate. We like to use this on St. Augustine lawns with Brown Patch or similar diseases because they do not want to feed on this type of fertilizer.
Speaking of Brown Patch, we are watching our St. Augustine lawns closely for any fungal issues in April. Brown Patch is a fungus that can attack St. Augustine lawns in the spring because of ample rain mixed with warm days and cool nights. Damp, cool conditions can lead to Brown Patch. We treat the affected areas to prevent the fungus from spreading if we see it in our St. Augustine lawns. The timing of when our lawns come out of dormancy depends on our temperatures. Warmer temperatures mean our lawns will come out of dormancy early in April. Cooler temps mean it will be late April into early May.
